The wide-spread Ville Vesuviane Museum features three villas: Villa Campolieto, Villa Ruggiero Villa Favorita sea park all representing the typical XVIIIth century architecture
The path is about 2 and a half hrs walking within the heart of the “Golden Mile” an audioguide and an updated map are available.
Villa Campolieto
Villa Campolieto was built in 1755 for Prince Luzio di Sangro, Duke of Casacalenda’s will, who devolved upon Architect Mario Gioffredo then replaced by Luigi Vanvitelli, who lead the works until 1773
Vanvitelli did major changes to the original project realizing important re-styling of internal spaces and being the director of all the decoration works realized by the main painters of the era.
Villa Ruggiero
Villa Petti Ruggiero is not far from Villa Campolieto
The position of this farm at the slopes of the Vesuvius Volcano, quite far from the sea, makes it a " dimora rustica " mainly connected to agricultural activities.
The Villa was built for Petti (the Baron) in about mid’700, it belonged to that family until 1863 when passed to the Ruggiero family.
Villa Favorita sea park
The huge building of Villa Favorita was named the “favourite” after Maria Carolina d'Austria by her husband Carlo di Borbone.
It features a huge and rich garden stretching to the sea. Within the park it is still possible to see the ancient Bourbon port, the coffee house and the Palazzina del Mosaico with walls made of porcelain, mother-of-pearl and mirrors. Information Form
